A NEW COLUMN ON FOOD COMING SOON!

Anthropologists Hanna Garth and Marisa Wilson invite you to explore the social world of Cuban food from globe to gut and all spaces in between.

Food is a ubiquitous topic in daily conversations on the island.  Where to find the best quality food for the best prices, what the best new paladares or quioscos are, and the innovations in sustainable farming, food and its production, preparation, sale and consumption are topics of daily debate. Food is on the table, in art, and, most importantly, on the mind.

In this Food column in Cuba Counterpoints, we feature all things related to Cuban food, from restaurants, recipes, and rations, to chefs and cookbooks, to gardens, sustainable agriculture, imports and exports, to representations in the visual and the performing arts, and to evocations in memories and sounds.

Food is edible but not only. It is a trope through which we may explore the daily rhythms of Cuban life, past and present, as well as imaginations of the future. On the island, in the diaspora, and through the global movement of Cuban culture we invite submissions that trace the role of Cuban food in the everyday lives of Cubans and non-Cubans alike.
